Course Objectives

Among the specific objectives of this course are the following:

 

         gain practical experience in reading and interpreting critically from a feminist vantage point,

       

        improve their ability to articulate ideas and responses against the backdrop of different feminist theories,

  


Course Content

To examine gendered identities in the representative works by and about women; to read, analyse, and discuss diverse identity and socialization processes that determine gender roles; to recognize the on-going dialogue of women and politics, literature, history, art, anthropology, and psychology; to identify motifs, themes, and stereotypical patterns in different literary forms; to seek for historical, philosophical and cultural information in order to appreciate literature; to analyse, interpret and make research on concepts such as sex, gender, class, cultural diversity, women’s experiences and achievements, and the impact of sexism and prejudice; to perceive the role of gender in literature in a chronological and from multidimensional perspective.


Course Learning Outcomes

Among the specific goals students are expected to achieve in this course are the following:

 

        * to read a wide range of theoretical and literary selections from different periods

        * to become acquainted with the characteristics of various genres of literature,

        * to learn how to write insightful papers with a theoretical awareness

        * to practice skills that will enable them to analyze other textual material like films, iconic signs, cultural elements and rituals with a feminist awareness
