Course Objectives

This course will serve as an introduction to the broad field of social psychology. It aims to familiarise students with basic principles, theories and research in the study of social behaviour. Students will be acquainted with dominant and critical ways of thinking within social psychology. Furthermore, we will seek ways of establishing links between (social-psychological) theory and the social reality itself (e.g. our everyday lives). I will also introduce you to recent developments and critiques of mainstream social psychology.


Course Content

An introduction to the basic concepts, principles, and theories of social psychology; the method of social psychology; analysis of major topics including human interaction and its products such as group structure, properties of groups, types of groups, intra and intergroup relations, leadership, power, communication, and social attitudes.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to evaluate fundamental topics of social psychology, distinguish between different approaches within social psychology, comprehend different methods used in social psychological research, think through social psychological concepts in making sense of the social behaviour
