Course Objectives

This course covers human development from pre-birth through childhood. Development in the physical, cognitive, social and personality domains of life in childhood will be explained. You will learn the major theories and the key figures in developmental psychology, common research techniques used in the field and research findings that inform clinicians, researchers and the general public.

 

 


Course Content

Physical, sensory, motor, cognitive, social and emotional development from birth to late adulthood, with special reference to major theoretical approaches to human development.


Course Learning Outcomes

On the successful completion of this course, it is expected that the student is able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the scope and major theories of developmental psychology through infancy and childhood
  • Demonstrate knowledge of physical, cognitive, social and personality aspects of human development and the interaction between these aspects
  • Explain research methods used by developmental psychologists
  • Apply what they learn to themselves and to people they know
