Offered Semester:Fall or Spring Semesters.

Course Objectives

Field mapping is a very expensive and sometimes risky business, especially in remote and unsafe areas. The sole purpose of this course is to minimize the need to be spent in the field for geological mapping procedure by mastering on information extraction from air or space-borne imagery and available information. The course also aims at mastering the students in understanding various guises of geological structures, their expression on the images and geological maps, and information exchange through geological maps, cross-sections, and various geological diagrams.

Course Content

This course may be taken by graduate students during the summer months under the direction of a faculty member and it may include preparation work for thesis or attendance in international seminars approved by the department.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be proficient in

- image interpretation for geological purposes,

- Geological Mapping techniques

- Attitude calculations from remotely sensed data

- Preparation of cross-sections, and various structural analysis diagrams
