Course Objectives

The object of the course is to introduce the various aspects of the finite element methods as applied to a variety of  engineering problems in a systematic manner. 

Model computer programs are given with example applications to understand the computer implementation of the theory developed.                


Course Content

Introduction to calculus of variations, weighted residuals method. Properties of finite elements. Ritz and Galerkin methods. Applications in boundary value problems. Two dimensional and time dependent problems.
