Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to

  • gain awareness of translation as both a process and a product
  • learn the distinctive features of main text types
  • develop an understanding of the decision-making process in translation
  • acquire foundational skills related to translation methods
  • use available resources effectively when translating
  • understand the contextual meaning in English texts
  • apply translation techniques to different text types

 


Course Content

Intermediate work in translating texts from English into Turkish in three stages: (a) starting with samples including the basic structures in English at sentence level, (b) moving on to short paragraphs in which these structures are found in more complex form, (c) exposing students to short essays covering a wide variety of subjects as representative as possible of the styles and registers found in contemporary written English.
