Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • read and understand long passages on academic topics.

  • answer questions about details, inferences, sentence restatements, sentence insertion, vocabulary, pronoun reference function, and overall ideas.

  • determine main ideas, details, function, stance, inferences, and overall organization from listening passages and related questions.

  • answer opinion questions about some aspect of academic life.

  • listen to long passages and summarize and offer opinions on the information in the passages.

  • read an academic essay and listen to an academic passage, and write about how the ideas in the two passages are related.

  • write a personal essay.
