Course Objectives

The main aim of this course is to provide learners with the theoretical basis and practical skills in the area of ELT Teacher Education. The course is designed to educate learners in different aspects of ELT Teacher Education so that they can become component researchers and/or resourceful ELT teacher trainers. By the end of the semester, learners will mainly be able to:

  • Study the main approaches and methods to ELT Teacher Education.
  • Reflect on the current state and future of the ELT Teacher Education as a research field.
  • Read chapters in selected books and current articles in the field of ELT Teacher Education.
  • Go through practical ELT Teacher Education supervision cycle.
  • Be exposed to different technological tools for ELT Teacher Education.
  • Write and share reflection reports and forum posts in relation to the topics covered in the lesson.
  • Design, implement, and report a study in the field of ELT Teacher Education.

Course Content

Overview of major issues in teacher education through promoting research on the design and implementation of teacher education and training programs; action research, and models of teacher supervision; training the trainers.

  • justify a selected theoretical framework for a teacher education research study

  • critique reports related to teacher education with a focus on standards, evaluation, and professional concerns
  • reframe teacher education issues related to identity, culture, diversity, technology, instruction, and research
