Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Understand the epistemological aspects of language acquisition.
  • Analyze the interplay between linguistic and cognitive processes in language learning.
  • Evaluate theories and research findings in first language acquisition.
  • Be able to apply a critical stance towards various theoretical accounts assessing their proposals from a cross-linguistic perspective.

Course Content

The nature of child language; universal grammar; theories and research methods in the acquisition of phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics; an overview of second language acquisition.

Students, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:
