Course Objectives
This course aims to a) discuss various recent, state-of-the-art innovative pedagogical approaches, methods, and trends in English Language Teaching (ELT), b) analyze the relevant theoretical frameworks, classroom implications and related classroom practices from a critical perspective, c) engage course participants in an academic research paper writing process related to the pedagogical approaches, methods and trends that are discussed during the course sessions.
Course Content
A continuation of ELT 525, practical work on English language teaching by focusing on the techniques in teaching grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing; discussion and evaluation of applications of approaches, methods and techniques.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to a) show awareness of the contemporary innovative pedagogical/instructional approaches, methods, techniques, and trends in English language teaching b)evaluate the contemporary pedagogical approaches, methods, techniques and trends as well as making suggestions for improvement c) synthesize and critically assess the affordances and challenges of theoretical frameworks and classroom practices related to comtemporary pedagogical /instructional approaches. d) conduct scientific studies and write an academic research paper related to the comtemporary pedagogical/instructional approaches, methods and trends that are discussed during the course sessions.
