Course Objectives

 

By the end of this course, students will:

  • be introduced to contemporary non-western literatures with an emphasis on multicultural and multiethnic writers;

  • develop a critical understanding of the development of the novel genre in non-western contexts;

  • be familiarized with current trends, theories, themes, and narrative modes of contemporary non-western literature.


Course Content

An introduction to contemporary Non-Western literatures with an emphasis on multicultural and multiethnic writers. The texts include the works of writers who write in English to reach a wider audience, as well as those translated into English. Emphasis on different authors in different semesters.

Students, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:

  • distinguish different forms of writing in non-western contexts;

  • appreciate literary characteristics of authors and texts studied in the course;

  • identify non-western narrative modes.
