Course Objectives
The students are expected to
1. to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of psychoanalytic and literary writing
2.to develop skills in psychoanalytically-inflected approaches to reading literary texts and engage students in psychoanalyzing a broad variety of texts, literary or non-literary
3.to widen students’ consciousness of varieties of psychological approaches to literature
Course Content
After basic concepts, theories and trends of psychology are introduced, representative literary works are studied in the light of these trends.
Course Learning Outcomes
The students are expected to
1.identify major psychoanalytical approaches and discuss them in relation to their historical context and to other theoretical perspectives, to longstanding literary and intellectual traditions
2.discuss a broad variety of texts covered in the course as demonstrated through written essays which show their awareness of the issues raised by psychoanalytical perspectives
3. write two 3000-word term papers (three for PhD sts) at the end of the semester concentrating on a series of psychoanalytic, critical and literary texts
