Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the student will have read approximately 12 plays by Shakespeare and wıll have studied in greater depth at  least six of them. 

Students wıll also have analysed  several of the formal (including stylistic) features and thematic concerns of Shakespeare's tragedies, comedies, historıes and romances/problem plays

After this course students will find that they can easily identify the similarities and differences between classıcal, earlıer and contemporary (Early Modern) drama and Shakesperean drama

Students of this course will also be introduced to some of the major issues regarding textual transmission and cruxes of editing Early Modern texts


Course Content

In-depth study of selected major Shakespearean plays.

Student, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to: 

Show detaıled and analytıc understanding of several Shakespearean dramas

Be able to compare and contrast the ınternal and external thematıc and formal features of Shakespearean and other playsç

Read Early Modern Englısh texts ın their original forms with a fair degree of accuracy, and know how to reconstruct parts that are resistant to understanding
