Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the student will learn:

- basic concepts in Project Management,

- how to prepare a school development project,

- definition of project management and the importance of project management in education,

- selecting the right projects and preparing a Project Charter,

- definition and usage of Communication Skills Management Skills, People Management Skills at projects,

- how to initiate a project,

- Project Management terminology; assumptions, scope, deliverables, requirements,

- risk analysis techniques, creating risk management plan and how ro respond a risk,

- breaking down the project activities; defining task and responsibilities, project milestones

- negotiation, skills assessment, needs analysis, making contracts for resources,

- creating Quality Management Plan and calculating the critical path,

- preparing the project budget, cost estimation techniques, cost baseline,

- monitoring and controlling Project Process,

- European Union institutions and bodies and their purpose,

- the relation between international educational projects and EU,

- DG Education & Culture and its responsibilities,

- Erasmus + Programme and educational opportunities in Turkey,

- how to prepare Erasmus + KA1 and KA2 applications,


Course Content

The proposed course embraces the general principles of the project management while addressing the specific examples of its application in education sector by teaching how to prepare, manage and finalize European Union educational projects. Besides, it will create an offortunity for students to prepare an educational institution s development plan which is very important for educational institutions in order to make a sustainable development and increase their competitiveness. In addition, the proposed course provides information on EU and its educational activities and funds in terms of project management so that the students are able to learn how to reach educational opportunities both to develop their personal skills and to provide improvement at the educational environment they are in.


Course Learning Outcomes

Student, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:

- acquire the general principles of project management such as integration, planning, executing,  monitoring & controlling, closing;

-  learn to prepare an educational institution’s development plan;

- have a general view on EU and its bodies in order to learn how to reach educational opportunities to develop both his personal skills and the educational environment he is in;

-  prepare, manage and finalize a school development project; 

-  develop core project management skills and apply them in educational projects;

-  develop an interest in research on project management in education

- describe and use people  management, risk assessment, quality assessment, in educational projects

- explain and administer change management at schools or educational institutions which is essential while preparing projects;

- identify and use problem solving techniques which are necessary in order to be able to manage and finalize educational projects successfully;

- demonstrate the major supporting skills necessary to apply project management in multilateral educational projects.
