ECTS Credit:8.0
Department:Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Language of Instruction:English
Level of Study:Graduate
Course Coordinator:Assoc.Prof.Dr. OZAN KEYSAN
Offered Semester:Fall Semesters.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course students will comrehend principles of designing a surface mount permanent magnet motor. They will be able to calculate parameters of such motors from their magnetic circuit and will be able to predict motor performance from its electrical circuit model. They will learn how to control and drive a brushless permanent magnet motor.

Course Content

Varying subjects in line with modern practice. Motion control Systems. Principles of Sizing Gearing and Torque Production Permanent Magnet materials. Squarewave PM Brushless Motor- Drives. Sine wave PM Brushless Motor-Drives. AC drives with PM and Synchronous Reluctance Hybrid Motors. Switched Reluctance Drives.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students will learn sizing  a surface mount permanent magnet motor to meet a certain specification.

Students will learn properties of permanent magnets and using them in permanent magnet motors.

Students will be able to calculate parameters of a surface mount permanent magnet machine from its magnetic circuit.

Students will be able to predict the performance of a surface mount permanent magnet motors from their equivalent circuit.                                                                                                   Students will comrehend controlling and driving permanent magnet machines and will be able to predict their performance for a given drive specification.                                                        Students will comrehend operating principles and switched reluctance motors
