EE509 HIGH FREQUENCY FILTER DESIGN

Course Code:5670509
METU Credit (Theoretical-Laboratory hours/week):3 (2.00 - 2.00)
ECTS Credit:8.0
Department:Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Language of Instruction:English
Level of Study:Graduate
Course Coordinator:Prof.Dr. ŞİMŞEK DEMİR
Offered Semester:Fall or Spring Semesters.

Course Objectives

Basic definitions and design tools related to analog RF and Microwave filters will be studied through hands on designs on PC's using a filter synthesis software developed through M.Sc and Ph.D theses in EEE department of METU. Students will learn how to design lumped, distributed and mixed element filters.

Course Content

Synthesis of lumped element filters. Lumped element filter design using prototypes. Circuit transformation for realization of lumped element filters. Synthesis of distributed element filters. Distributed element filter design using prototypes. Circuit transformation for realization of distributed element filters.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to learn how to design Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass, Bandstop, Notch and AllPass filters. In Bandpass Filter area,  Ladder filters, Direct Coupled resonator filters, Cross-Coupled Resonator Triplets and Quadruplet type filters, Linear Phase filters and Dual Mode filters, diplexers and multiplexers will be studied. In Microwave filters, Combline, Parallel Coupled Line, Hairpin Line and waveguide filters will be studied.
