Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are to enable the students to understand the new approaches to counseling such as constructivism, constructivist developmental theory, and multicultural theory. Special emphasis will be placed upon constructivist therapies, particularly constructivist developmental therapy and multicultural counseling along with their relevance to the Turkish clients. Further relevance of the current approaches for the Turkish culture will be stressed.


Course Content

Discussion of new approaches and their applications to different counseling settings.


Course Learning Outcomes

The students completing this course are expected to: 

  • comprehend historical context, theoretical basis, basic concepts, therapeutic process, and research directions  of each theory,
  • examine the concepts and applications  of each theory to counseling,
  • discuss  cultural relevance of each theory
  • apply various skills and techniques of each theory
