Course Objectives

The students completing this course are expected to:

  • Carry out individual counseling from intake to termination session under supervision
  • Apply counseling theories into counseling sessions
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the professional and ethical codes of conduct
  • Develop professional record keeping skills
  • Develop self-awareness in terms of strenghts and weaknessess as a counselor 

Course Content

Opportunity for advanced students to obtain practical experience in individual counseling. Each student is required to carry out twenty individual counseling sessions under supervision.


Course Learning Outcomes

The students completing this course are expected to:

  • Conceptualize client cases through generating theoretically grounded hypotheses
  • Utilize counseling skills most appropriate to cases
  • Demonstrate effective working alliances
  • Distinguish different phases of counseling process
  • Demonstrate ethical and responsible counselor attitudes and actions throughtout the counseling process
  • Use skills and techniques parallel to the counseling theories that utilized for the case
  • Demonstrate awareness regarding the impact of culture and gender in professional practice
  • Write case, session and termination reports 
  • Assess his/her strengths and weaknesses and reflect on how to overcome weaknessess
  • Present the cases, ask proper questions and receive feedback in the supervision process
