Course Objectives
By the end of this course, the students are expected to;
- understand the main characteristics of a theory
- comprehend the main characteristics of major curriculum theories
- understand the factors affecting thr emergence of various curriculum theories
- comprehend the major research methodologies employed in curriculum field
- develop interest in curriculum as a field of study
Course Content
Theories of curriculum development, and a survey of curriculum research and patterns of curriculum management in various systems.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students are expected to:
- Explain the characteristics of a social and educational theory
- Explain the characteristics of different curriculum theories
- Compare and contrast the main assumptions of different curriculum theories
- Synthesize research on curriculum models/theories
- Evaluate the different curriculum theories/models in terms of their ability to explain educational practices
- Attend to the scholarly discussions on curriculum theories and models
- Suggest research questions considering the main assumptions of different curriculum theories
