Course Objectives

By the end of this course, the students are expected to;

  • understand the main characteristics of a theory
  • comprehend the main characteristics of major curriculum theories
  • understand the factors affecting thr emergence of various curriculum theories
  • comprehend the major research methodologies employed in  curriculum  field
  • develop interest in curriculum as a field of  study

 


Course Content

Theories of curriculum development, and a survey of curriculum research and patterns of curriculum management in various systems.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course students are expected to:

  • Explain the characteristics of a social and educational theory
  • Explain the characteristics of different curriculum theories
  • Compare and contrast the main assumptions of different curriculum theories
  • Synthesize research on curriculum models/theories
  • Evaluate the different curriculum theories/models in terms of their ability to explain educational practices
  • Attend  to the scholarly discussions on curriculum theories and models
  • Suggest research questions considering the main assumptions of different curriculum theories
