Course Objectives

By the end of the semester, the students are expected to:

  • Understand major instructional theories
  • Comprehend a given research report based on a theory or theories and its implications for practice
  • Comprehend issues on research on teaching, and develops a more critical perspective.
  • Compare research studies in line with the theories.
  • Develop a research proposal to test a certain theory

Course Content

Theories of instruction and research in the learning process, human relations, group dynamics, communication, thought process and other fields contributing to a theory of instruction.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course the students are expected to:

  • Explain the major features of each instructional theory
  • Explain views related to learning, instruction and instructional theories
  • Explain the reasons for having instructional theories
  • Prepare a report on one of the topics studied 
  • Compare the topics based on teaching, learning, students and teachers
  • Compare teaching and instruction at different levels of education
  • Reflect on an instructional theory in relation to research
  • Reflect on classroom teaching and instructional planning
  • Critique lessons that incorporate different theories of instruction and instructional strategies
  • Rate the performance of presenters  for explaining the topics
