Course Objectives

Demonstrate an awareness of major theories regarding leadership, motivation, decision-making, and communication 

Demonstrate an understanding of various leadership inventories 

Understand leader/follower interactions 

Analyze leaders in terms of leadership thepries covered in the course

Formulate a personal philosophy of leadership set within the context of education

Demonstrate the capability to assess situations and determine the probability of success based on various leadership styles 

 


Course Content

An analysis of primary and secondary group dynamics. Dynamics of organizational behaviour. Conflict in organizations. Several leadership theories and their applicability in Turkey and other developing countries.


Course Learning Outcomes

Describe major theories of leadership, motivation, decision making and communication

Discuss the relationship between leadership and motivation, decision making and communication

Administer leadership inventories to self and others asses leadership skills

Evaluate the inventories to enhance leadership skills

Give examples of how leaders with different leadership styles interact with followers

Discuss the consequences of different kinds of leader/follower interaction

 

Examine the leadership theories discussed and determine which of the theories match with the leadership practices of the leaders examined.

Develop your own philosophy of leadership by integrating the results of leadership inventories that you completed and those completed by others regarding your leadership skills

Explain which leadership style would lead to successful resolution of problematic situations that arise in an educational organization.
