Course Objectives

  • Identify characteristics of healthy and diverse families.
  • Evaluate the effects the community has on a child and his or her family.
  • Utilize skills in organizing new information and resources, and in advocating for children and families.
  • Examine effective parent school partnerships.
  • Demonstrate the ability to locate and use relevant resources addressing school and community partnerships available in online archives.
  • Synthesize research findings on a key component of parent involvement.
  • Analyze the varying impacts of the contextual factors on parent involvement
  • List and categorize the types of school-home partnership resources that enhance parent involvement.
  • Discuss current events in the news and legislation that effect children and their families.
  • Design initiatives to forge useful social actions for sake of the community including children. 

Course Content

To assist those in the field of early childhood education in the understanding and effective handling of questions arising from parent-child relationships and teacher-parent-child relationships. Through the use of readings, case histories, and data drawn from individual experiences, an understanding is sought of the dynamics of the most frequently encountered problems of children in classrooms. Development of methods of forming constructive relationships with children, parents, and ancillary school or social agency personnel.
