Course Objectives

This course is designed;

- to study the evolution of education and care of the young children and the theories which have influenced early childhood educational programs and practices. 

- to analyze the historical events that influenced the direction and nature of the care and education of young children.

- to disscuss the implication of theory for teaching practices, examination and teacher preparation.


Course Content

Different philosophical and psychological theories that form the foundation of early childhood education programs and practices. Historical events that influenced the direction and nature of the care and education of young children.


Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester, students will be able to:

1. develop an understanding of the social and historical factors which have influenced early childhood education programs and practices.

2. identify major theorists (philosophical, psychological, and educational) and their impact on the development of early childhood education.

3. identify and examine current trends pertaining to early childhood education.

4. describe the important issues in early childhood education.
