Course Objectives

Students will be able to construct a strategic approach to teaching techniques.

Students will be able to recognize the characteristics of teaching methods for early childhood education.

Students will be able to compare and evaluate different teaching methods in terms of their strengths and limitations

Students will be able to analyze various early childhood education approaches in terms of teaching methods

Students will be able to apply the teaching methods during practical work at preschool institutions.


Course Content

Definition of various teaching methods that can be used in early childhood years. Methods of Teaching related to the specific subject-matter, teaching and learning processes, application of general methodological principles to the teaching of subject matter. Overview of the teaching methods in the field of early childhood education, stimulation of interest, and developing awareness for putting the theory into practice. Critical analysis of young children’s learning and development and a more thorough understanding of teaching young children.


Course Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to recognize the role of strategies and strategic decision in educational applications.
  • Students will be able to identify the term of teaching techniques in early childhood education.
  • Students will be able to understand to connection between strategic decision of education and teaching techniques.
  • Students will be able to describe the characteristics of co-constructing, community building, deconstructing, documenting, empowering, philosophizing, problem-solving, reinforcing, scaffolding and task analysis.
  • Students will be able to discuss the teaching methods in term of goal relevance, developmental consideration, and equity considerations.
  • Students will be able to participate group works to discuss the teaching methods features and prepare activities by using the teaching methods
  • Students will be able to identify the strengths of using the teaching methods.
  • Students will be able to identify the limitations of using the teaching methods.
  • Students will be able to compare the teaching methods to combine the methods for her/his educational applications.
  • Students will be able to examine Montessori, High Scope, Bank Street, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and Distar Approaches in terms of the teaching methods.
  • Students will be able to identify approach specific teaching methods and their characteristics.
  • Students will be able to examine national early childhood curriculum in terms of the teaching methods.
  • Students will be able to prepare their own activity plans by using the teaching methods.
  • Students will be able to practice the teaching methods in classroom applications.
  • Students will be able to practice the teaching methods during practical work at preschool institutions.
