Course Objectives

Upon successful completion, through active participation in this course and its related assignments and activities, students will be able to:

  • Understand the teaching process and identify the aspects of the teaching process.
  • Be aware and observe of the characteristics of effective teachers.
  • Understand and examine the negative and positive characteristics of early childhood teachers.
  • Define and describe the teaching methods appropriate to early childhood education.
  • Explore and understand project approach used in early childhood education and be able to apply project work with young children.
  • Apply various teaching methods during practical work at preschool institutions. 

Course Content

Methods of teaching related to the specific subject-matter, teaching and learning processes, application of general methodological principles to the teaching of subject-matter, critical study and analysis of textbooks in terms of methods and strategies to be used. Micro-teaching applications and critical assessment.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the completion of the course the students will be able to the following:

  • By describing, observing and discussing the teaching processes, develop a depth understanding related to different aspects of it.
  • Based on their observations, understand, summarize and debate the characteristics and the roles of effective preschool teachers in teaching-learning process.
  • Know different methods used during the teaching process and choose appropriate methods for early childhood education. 
  • Create and critique plans for teaching and learning in early childhood education classrooms.

10To be able to take responsibility and to fulfill these responsibilities in individual and group work.
11To understand the importance of family involvement in children's education and to plan activities related to family involvement.
12To have knowledge about literary genres prepared for pre-school children and to examine existing publications in terms of literary and artistic perspectives.
13To have knowledge about the importance and purpose of the use of formal and informal assessment methods appropriate for the age level and developmental level of pre-school children, and to apply and interpret different evaluation methods and to be able to interpret findings.
14To be able to follow/access, understand and question scientific publications for pre-school education.
