Course Objectives

Students are expected to

  • understand basic concepts and principles of nutrition.
  • comprehend the structure and functions of human digestive system.
  • gain an understanding of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins.
  • gain knowledge about nutrient requirements of a pregnant woman, lactating woman, infants and children.
  • understand how to overcome the malnutrition problems in children.

Course Content

Fundamental concepts and principles of nutrition. Components of nutrients, enrichment of nutrients with respect to nutrient value, nutrition of pregnant and lactating women, malnutrition, energy balance, nutrient requirements during pregnany, malnutrition in children, nutrition of 0-6 year old children and hygienic rules in preparation of food.

Students will be able to

  • explain basic concepts and principles of nutrition in their own words.
  • prepare a model on the structure and functions of human digestive system.
  • distinguish the roles of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins from each other.
  • differentiate nutrient requirements of a pregnant woman, lactating woman, infants and children.
  • explain how to overcome the malnutrition problems in children in their own words.

12To have knowledge about literary genres prepared for pre-school children and to examine existing publications in terms of literary and artistic perspectives.
13To have knowledge about the importance and purpose of the use of formal and informal assessment methods appropriate for the age level and developmental level of pre-school children, and to apply and interpret different evaluation methods and to be able to interpret findings.
14To be able to follow/access, understand and question scientific publications for pre-school education.
