Course Objectives

This course aims at introducing students with different theories of social and economic development with a special emphasis on the developing countries experiences. This theoretical background is used in evaluating the social, economic history of Turkey with a special focus on the spatial development of the urban areas beginning from the foundation of the Republic up today. 


Course Content

Different theories and schools of thought in development economics. The evolution of the economic structure and the planning experience during the Republican period in the light of these general theories.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course the students will have a comprehensive knowledge of the different development theories by studying various texts. They are also expected to have the knowledge of the social and economic development of the country as well as the spatial change in urban areas of Turkey from the begging of the Republic up today.
