Course Objectives
By the end of the course the students are expected to develop a partial master plan /projects reflecting an awareness and experience in following topics:
- Defining general characteristic and conservation problems of a historic site with special emphasis on the structural features of the area,
- Defining and evaluating the structural features and values of buildings to be protected,
- Defining and evaluating structural problems of the buildings to be protected,
- Defining current legal and administrative means and developing proposals for their use in practice,
- Assessing structural risks and preparing risk management plan for the conservation area,
- Applying the knowledge gathered throughout the theoretical courses and evaluating the collected data on the selected site or town and to gain particular expertise in “Conservation Master Plans” and “Historic Site Conservation Planning” in general.
Course Content
Study of historical, physical, natural, social, cultural, legal, administrative, managerial aspects of a part of or whole historic site in order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of its values, problems and potentials as a part of the multidisciplinary conservation process. Documentation, inventorization, evaluation, preparation of site conservation and management proposals. Awareness of the roles of different disciplinary backgrounds in contributing to the multidisciplinary conservation processes for historic sites.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

- identify and record natural, physical, visual, historical, social, cultural, economical and administrative components of historic urban tissue,
- identify the actors, stakeholders and shareholders within a historic urban site.
- prepare the tools for collecting data about different aspects of a historic urban area, such as survey forms, questionnaires’ and maps.
(Skills)
- design, create and generate a geographic information system for gathering, structuring, analysing, querying and presenting the data and outcomes specific to a historic urban site,
- report the values, problems and possible solutions and interventions in a historic urban tissue in relation to his/her own disciplinary background,
- collaborate with the actors, stakeholders and shareholders for integrating their views and values within the conservation decision-making process,

- participate in group work activity during field survey and studio studies,
- organize an interdisciplinary teamwork and involve in it actively,
- demonstrate individual responsibility and commitment to collective achievement,
- demonstrate evidence of professional ethics to resist and challenge real-life procedures of practice.
