Course Objectives

  • Introduce the basic concepts and features of computer networks and wireless communication systems.

  • Introduce students the details of wireless local area networks, cellular networks and wireless variants of well-known architectures as well as protocols.

  • Provide the skills and knowledge to select the best technology and design to solve a particular problem with respect to communication systems.

  • Introduction to teletraffic engineering and QoS.

Course Learning Outcomes

Student, who passed the course satisfactorily, will:

  • Understand the distinct concepts and protocols of the wired/wireless network architectures and learn how they all fit together
  • Exhibit ways in which the technology of computer networks and wireless communication systems affect the suitability for particular applications
  • Display knowledge of implications of the specific mode of operation, the quality of service issues and security measures and countermeasures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of routing and IP addressing strategies in the design of computer networks and mobile systems.
