Course Objectives

At the end of this course, students will 

- make a critique of organic chemistry literature 

- predict the structure-reactivity of any organic compound

-apply Hückel MO calculations to organic chemistry related problems

-propose a plausable mechanism for an organic reaction

- use and apply kinetic and free energy relationships to deduce organic reaction mechanisms  


Course Content

Basic and some advanced topics of organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms and molecular orbital theory.


Course Learning Outcomes

-to do Hückel MO calculations

-to apply kinectics to organic reactions

-to break down a synthesis into its basic constituents as to whether the reaction occurs or not

- to apply frontier orbital theory to the organic reactions 

- to be able to distinguish if a reaction proceeds thermally or photochemically
