Course Objectives

At the end of this course the students will learn

1) basic surface science notation and nomenclature.  

2) most frequently used surface and thin film characterization techniques.

3) production/formation and applications of organic molecular thin films


Course Content

Viscous behaviour of dispersion, diffusion and sedimentation of colloidal particles, surface tension, contact angle and wetting, experimental methods, adsorption from solution, electrical properties of colloids, stability of dispersion, thin films, hydrodynamical effects and colloidal stability.


Course Learning Outcomes

Student, who passed the course satisfactorily will be able to:

1) use basic surface science notation and nomenclature

2) predict/determine real and reciprocal lattice structure of a given surface or thin film

2) intepret surface diffraction, scanning probe microscopy and electron spectroscopy data

3) read/follow a surface science related research article comfortably
