Offered Semester:Spring Semesters.

Course Objectives

The  objective of this course: To teach the students NMR spectroscopy at higher level.

Resonance, Chemical shift, Homonuclear Spin-spin coupling as well as Heteronuclear spin-spin coupling. Second Order NMR Spectra, Different Spin Systems, C-13 NMR techniques, 2 Dimensional NMR Spectra and their Interpretation. COSY, DEPT, HSQC, and HMBC Spectra.

Course Content

Basic theory of NMR, macroscopic treatment, NMR in laboratory and rotating frames, NMR signal, resolution and sensitivity, NMR instrumentation, NMR parameters, proton NMR, chemical shift, Spin-spin coupling, Analysis of complex spin systems.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course the students should be able to interpret 1D-NMR spectra in combination with 2D-NMR spectra. They should be able to solve complicated structures. Furthermore, they should interpret the size of the coupling constants and combine them with the structures.
