Course Objectives

This course teaches the fundamental optical properties of conjugated polymer structures and their applications to optoelectronic device operation. This course provides a wide background and helps students meet the demand of the growing organic optoelectronic industry by preparing them for advanced study and research in organic optoelectronic devices. Topics include basic concepts in basic optical properties of conjugated polymers, OLEDs, solar cells, electrochromism, principles of optoelectronic device operation.


Course Content

Organic molecules and polymers, Conjugated Polymers, synthesis, optical and electrical properties, Applications of conjugated systems: solar cells, light emitting diodes, electrochromic devices and transistors. Some of the characterization techniques for morphology (such as AFM, TEM, XRD, etc.)


Course Learning Outcomes

1. Acquire fundamental understanding of the basic behind organic optoelectronic devices.
2. Develop basic understanding of organic light emitting diodes.
3. Develop detailed knowledge of conjugated polymers.
4. Acquire in depth understanding of organic solar cells.
5. Acquire detailed knowledge of electrochromic devices.
