Course Objectives
The primary objective of this course is for students to learn the fundamentals of contemporary biochemistry, name the structure and activity of the four major classes of biological macromolecules: nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids and describe the basic aspects of Michaelis Menten enzyme kinetics and catalysis. Through CHEM413 the students will gain the fundamental knowledge to understand the key molecular processes in biology.
Course Content
A chemical approach to biochemistry. A study of the structures and functions of biomolecules, metabolism and bioenergetics, replication, transcription and translation processes with an emphasis on the chemical structures, transformations.
