Course Objectives

The main objective of the course is to enable participants to acquire an integrated understanding of:

  • The theoretical framework of distance education.
  • The working definition and function of distance education.
  • The terminology and concepts associated with distance education.
  • The historical development of distance education.
  • Trends and issues of distance education.
  • Synchronous and asynchronous distance education strategies.

Course Content

Historical development of distance education, definition and function of distance education, technologies used within distance education: TV, VCR, radio, printed materials, computers, and the Internet. Typology of distance education teaching systems. Techniques and methods used in planning, development, and implementation of distance education teaching systems.

Upon completion of this course, class participants should be able to:

  • Examine the theoretical framework of distance education
  • Define distance education
  • Become familiar with the terminology and concepts associated with distance education.
  • Describe historical development of distance education,
  • Examine trends and issues of distance education.
  • Design, develop and deliver a lesson using synchronous and asynchronous distance education strategies.
