Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are to enable the students to understand the basic problems of Distance Education/Learning. In this course the student will examine the theoretical framework, historical development and practical applications of the distance education movement.


Course Content

Historical development of distance education, definition and function of distance education, technologies used within distance education: TV, VCR, radio, printed materials, computers, and the Internet. Typology of distance education teaching systems. Techniques and methods used in planning, development, and implementation of distance education teaching systems.


Course Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, class participants should be able to:

1.  Demonstrate a working knowledge of distance education practices.

2.  Design, develop and deliver a lesson using synchronous and asynchronous distance education strategies.

3.  Design an advanced website to provide student support for distance education.

4.  Demonstrate a working knowledge of how a web server is configured and maintained to support distance education.

5.  Demonstrate a knowledge of emerging telecommunication and distance learning technologies.
