Course Objectives

At the end of this course, the students are expected

1) to broaden their horizon in the field of Offshore wind turbine systems

2) to increase their ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and  engineering

3) to increase their ability to use techniques, skills, and modern engineering software tools necessary for engineering practice

4) to increase their ability to implement their theoretical knowledge


Course Content

Offshore Wind Turbines (OWTs). Stability of floating structures. Design rules of OWTs. Numerical modelling of environmental conditions (i.e. wind, wave). Modelling of offshore wind turbines. Coupled analysis of offshore wind turbines. Performance prediction of OWTs.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Identify the basics of offshore wind turbine systems
  • Differentiate their stability and design principles
  • Identify the numerical methods used in the coupled analysis of offshore wind turbines
  • Enhance their writing skills by presenting results in a report
  • Develop their sense of responsibility to work with other engineering disciplines
