Course Objectives
This course is designed to guide CE graduate students in conducting their individual research studies by acquainting them with the required knowledge, strategies, and experience in doing academic research. Some objectives are to enable students to:
- Understand research terminology and ethical principles
- Gain awareness of scientific research methods to be used in CE domain
- Critically assess published research in CE
- Construct and conduct research methodologically addressing problems in CE
- Comprehend how to collect and analyze relevant data
- Present and visualize research findings
Course Content
Study of the academic research process with special emphasis on Civil Engineering for identification of difficulties and problems, understanding the ethical issues, development of methods using best practices to address these problems, elicitation of requirement through data collection and analysis, visualization, interpretation and verification of results, application of research findings to practice.
