Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the student is expected to get the necessary knowledge on cements, aggregates, admixtures and mixing water in order to use these materials efficiently and correctly in designing concrete mixes.

Course Content

Properties and types of cements and aggregates. Methods and standards of mixing water. Chemical and mineral admixtures.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will;

A) understand and be able to simply evaluate the environmental impact of cement

B) be able to select the proper cement for a given task.

C) be able to develop a simple cement hydration model to estimate hydration product content and temperature changes.

D) understand the impact of aggregates on concrete and select a proper combination of aggregates for a given task.

E) understand what the basic types of mineral and chemical admixtures for concrete are and select the proper admixture for a given task.
