Course Objectives

The objective of the course is to provide indepth information and to equip practical skills (trough lab experiments) in plant tissue, cell, organ cultures, micropropgation, in vitro morphogensis (organogenesis and embryo genesis), plant secondary metabolites, protoplast cultures and fusions, somatic hybrid genetics, and plant molecular genetics.

Course Content

The main objective of the course is to give biology students information, concerning recent developments and advances made in plant tissue culture and plant biotechnology

Course Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, students will be able to:

learn how plant cell, tissues and organs are grown and manipulated in vitro conditions,

know and conduct  experiments to show how morphogenesis (organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis) are developed in vitro conditions,

be familiar with the function and manipuılations of nuclear and organalle genomes through somatic cell hybrids.

be equipped and conifidence in biotechnological appliacation of plant cell cultures and secondary metabolites,

have indepth inofrmation in plant genetic transformation and its agricultural and industrail applications.
