Course Objectives
The primary purpose of this course is to introduce students to the real estate markets and financing
alternatives for real estate investments. Real estate has been a traditional investment alternative for
Turkish investors. With the development of the legal framework for financing real estate investments
via mortgages, investment in real estate became more affordable and important for individual as well
as institutional investors.
A broad spectrum of topics on residential and commercial real estate finance and investments are
covered in this course. In the first part of the course, topics specific to residential real estate are
discussed. In the second part of the course, issues related to commercial real estate investments are
covered. In the last part of the course, alternative ways of investing in real estate are introduced.
Furthermore, the performance of real estate investments and their affect on the portfolios of investors
are also evaluated in this part of the course.
Students enrolled in this course should have completed the equivalent of a course in Financial
Management (BA 2802, or BA 5802 or an equivalent). In addition to this, students should also have
completed basic courses in economics, accounting and statistics. If you haven’t taken these courses
