Course Objectives
It is the capstone, integrative course designed to expose students to a strategic perspective on issues that concern the firm as a whole. Prior courses focused on developing specialized skills that pertain to a specific functional area (e.g. operations, marketing, finance). Strategic Management course draws on and integrates concepts from functional areas to analyze and solve complex business problems. It is difficult to move from functional perspective to a strategic one. Thus, one objective of this course is to teach students to think strategically. Another objective of Strategic Management course is to help students gain thorough understanding of issues concerning the analysis, formulation, and implementation of strategies. Throughout the semester, students will investigate concepts and techniques to formulate, implement and evaluate strategies. Students are expected to be advanced and active learners. They are expected not only to acquire new material but also to use all the knowledge and tools acquired from prior business courses to chart the future direction of different organizations as part of case studies and a simulation. A major responsibility of students in this course will be to make objective strategic decisions and to justify them through oral and written communication.
