Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- understand the role of banks and financial intermediaries, and their workings
- understand the differences between various types of financial intermediaries in the economy
- realize the empirical support for the theory of financial intermediation
Course Content
This course aims in developing an understanding of banking and financial intermediaries, and their workings. The course explains why banks and other financial intermediaries are special and describes the various types of financial intermediaries in the economy. This course intends to focus on banks as a type of financial intermediary. Moreover, the role of financial intermediaries in the real economy will be examined throughout the course.
