Course Objectives

Course Objectives include improving knowledge and competence to use the theoretical and methodological information in the area of presentation in architecture, developing sensibility to the urban environments that we live in, improving the capability to visualize analysis, findings, proposals and assessments with proper visual media. Also improving the ability to access required information related to the concepts, discussions and developments, and developing consciousness of professional and ethical responsibilities in the field of architecture are in focus.


Course Content

Understanding and expression of a complex urban environments using the techniques of creative mapping in architecture. Readings for introducing the theory of creative mapping in architecture, and discussion on examples from art and architecture. Use of creative mapping techniques by students to present the
in the contemporary city.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the student will be able to

  • Understand and interpret the contemporary mapping theory for representing urban environments and related concepts,
  • Know and evaluate the critical mapping theory in the scope of social, cultural, political, artistic and philosophical issues related to the scope of lived urban environments,
  • Critically respond to the contemporary developments in fields of design, theory and criticism, urban and landscape research, and digital mediums, to integrate them with interdisciplinary perspectives,
  • Conduct comprehensive research on the themes related to urban environments, and organize the outcomes with a critical position, 
  • Convey knowledge and research results competently with expressive / visual media used in architecture and urban design, using necessary techniques and programs.
