Course Objectives

This course provides:

  • an awareness of the advantages of using ecological materials and construction
  • comprehension of the key concepts of sustainability and carbon footprint.
  • an understanding of the importance of recovery, reuse, recycling and reduction of waste.

Course Content

A course largely based on direct experience of built works of architecture and architectural sites in Turkey or abroad, facilitated by field studies or design workshops to be conducted by staff. Due to time to be spent far from school premises, programs for the course are offered in the Summer School, or travel periods are organized in summer or winter vacations. Expenses for travels are met by students themselves, with partial support for those held in Turkey.


Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the successful students are expected to:

  • comprehend the importance of ecological living.
  • understand the key concepts of sustainability.
  • know the importance of recovery, reuse, recycling and reduction of waste.
  • to manage teamwork and collaboratively contribute to the production of a useful object from waste material.
