Course Objectives
The objective is to equip the students with the basic knowledge of architecture produced in the Ottoman Empire during the nineteenth century in a comparative framework, and to interpret and critically evaluate the organizational, stylistic, technological, typological and urban transformations in the field of architectural production in this context.
Course Content
Critical survey on Ottoman architecture in the nineteenth century. It covers the multiple dimensions of the built environment within a cross-cultural framework of contemporary encounters between the "West" and the "East" during "the longest century of the empire" that extended from the late eighteenth century into the early twentieth century.

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:
