Course Objectives

To supply graduate students with the knowledge of physical structure of gas molecules. To enable students to apply their theoretical knowledge for the calculation of the thermodynamic gas properties using statistical mechanics.


Course Content

Quantum theory background. The vector model of the atom. Statistical mechanics. Calculation of the thermodynamic properties. Chemical thermodynamics.


Course Learning Outcomes

A firm understanding of basic concepts of molecular structure of gases. Ability to estimate the thermodynamic properties of gases using statistical mechanics. The fundamental knowledge to be used in the analysis of nonequilibrium motion of gases in advanced courses.
