Course Objectives

To give students an overall understanding of Turkish politics starting with the Republic. The students are expected to learn main conceptual frameworks that discuss Turkish Politics and they should have a comprehensive understanding of political mechanisms in Turkey with an historical perspective.


Course Content

This course aims to provide an analysis of the fundamental aspects of Turkish Politics and political parties within the Turkish political system. The course is composed of three parts. The first part deals with the factors affecting political structure in Turkey such as ideology, religion, culture, economy, development and consolidation of democracy. The second part deals with the political parties. The third part is about the analysis of various criteria of the voting behaviour such as ethnicity class and gender.


Course Learning Outcomes

-İdentify political proceses and issues that are temporary or prevalent in Turkish politics

- Develop knowledge on theoretical discussions and perspectives in Turkish politics
