Course Objectives

The objective of the course is to study local government as a part of the state structure
with reference to the changing form and functions of local government in Turkey and
some other selected countries. The focus of attention will be on the philosophy of local
government and the relationship between the central and local governments as well as
between the local government and local population.

To develop students analytical skills regarding the analysis of local government issues.

To have students analyze and explore the link between problems of local government and political processes.

To develop students analytical capacity to relate the local government theories the analysis of concrete local government and urban issues.
