Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic statistical concepts and methods of analysis commonly used in social science research, and also to get them familiar with SPSS, a statistical software package for recording, manipulating and analyzing quantitative data.
Course Content
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the basic concepts and methods of statistics. Issues to be covered are data collection, measurement of central tendency and variability, probability and distribution, estimation, and simple regression and correlation.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:

appreciate the role of statistical methods in social science research

develop skills in presenting quantitative data using appropriate displays, tabulations and summaries

understand the role of statistical methods in quantifying variation, setting confidence limits, and testing hypotheses

select and use appropriate statistical methods in univariate and bivariate analyses with the help of SPSS

understand and interpret output from statistical analyses
