We discuss the economic legacy that the Turkish Republic inherited from the Ottoman Empire and the efforts to build a new economic system on this inheritance in the early republican era. We then analyze the major phases of economic transformation in the twentieth century. In the second part of the course, we examine various dimensions of the contemporary Turkish economy from the labor market to the EU process.
